Hyundai Service & Repair in Sarasota, FL

Hyundai has grown from a budget brand into a serious competitor since entering the U.S. market in 1986. We service the full Hyundai lineup at Nott's Automotive in Sarasota with OEM parts and techs who know the common engine issues.

Hyundai is a brand we see more of every year at Nott's Automotive. The Elantra and Sonata are common in Sarasota, and the Tucson and Santa Fe are popular family SUVs. Hyundai has had some serious engine problems over the last decade, and we've been dealing with them since we opened in 2011. We use OEM Hyundai parts and the GDS diagnostic software. Every repair comes with our 24-month, 24,000-mile Tech-Net warranty.

Common Hyundai Repairs We See

The 2011 to 2018 Elantra with the 1.8L or 2.0L Nu engine has been part of a major recall for engine failure. The connecting rod bearings wear prematurely and the engine eventually seizes. Hyundai extended the warranty to 10 years or 120,000 miles on many of these. If you have an Elantra in that range, check your VIN with us first. We can do a bearing inspection and, if the engine has failed, we install a Jasper reman engine with a 3-year, 100,000-mile warranty. We also see a lot of Elantra clock spring failures that cause the airbag light to come on and the horn to stop working.

The 2011 to 2019 Sonata with the 2.4L Theta II engine is the one that made headlines. The engine has a design flaw where metal debris from machining gets left in the block and damages the bearings. The engine burns oil, knocks, and eventually fails. Hyundai did a recall and a software update that detects bearing wear before failure. If your Sonata has the Theta II engine and you hear a knock, stop driving it and call us. We can inspect the bearings and replace the engine if needed. The 2.0L turbo version of the Theta II also has the same bearing issues plus turbo failures.

The 2016 to 2021 Tucson with the 2.4L engine burns oil. We see these come in with low oil levels between changes. If you don't check the oil regularly, the engine will spin a bearing. We recommend 5,000-mile oil changes and checking the dipstick every other fuel fill-up. We also see Tucson AC compressor failures and the panoramic sunroof drains clogging, which causes water to leak into the cabin. We clear the drains and dry out the carpet to prevent mold.

Why Bring Your Hyundai to Nott's

Our ASE-certified technicians use OEM Hyundai parts on every repair. We have the GDS diagnostic software that Hyundai dealers use, so we can read engine codes, program keys, and do the same relearns the dealer does. We know the Theta II engine problems and we can tell you whether your vehicle is covered by the extended warranty before you pay for anything. We stock oil filters, cabin filters, and brake pads for Elantras, Sonatas, and Tucsons, so most routine service is done same-day. We're a family-owned shop that's been in Sarasota since 2011.
